Frequently Asked Questions about B.B.Q's
| Q. |
How to clean the BBQ grills, especially the cooking grids ? |
| A. |
There are a variety of grill degreaser products on the market that can be used on all the grill parts provided they do not contain any abrasives which would scratch the porcelain enamel finish. The cooking grids themselves can be scrubbed etc. but to clean this thoroughly, one would spend more time cleaning than cooking on the grill. The most practical method is to leave grease on the cooking grids until the next time you cook. During the heat up period use a brass wire brush to clean the ash off the grids as the heat drys it up. The heat sterilizes the cooking surfaces and cleaning for appearance sake can be
schedule. |

What temperature reading should I expect on low, medium or high valve setting ? |
| A. |
There is no precise temperature to reference as influences such as winds, outside temperature, how many burners are turned on and how often the lid has been opened, all change the temperature that is being registered. As with any cooking appliance, one must get familiar with its performance and the temperature gauge is merely a reference tool that can be used mostly during that learning process. Once you have become seasoned at the art of outdoor grilling, you'll discover that intuitiveness, timing and experience are your best guides. |
| Q. |
Built-ins, what material can I enclose the grill in ?
|
| A. |
Non-combustable material! These grills have not been tested not approved for installation in a combustible surrounding. This is not limiting with the availability of a variety of building materials such as steel studding, cement board, ceramic tile, facestone and even face brick, all as options to the traditional masonry brick grill enclosures. |
| Q. |
Why does the regulator on a propane grill sometimes hum ?
|
| A. |
With the introduction of the low-flow mode regulators became more sensitive to pressures. When this occurs, it will sometimes stop after a few minutes. Adjusting the position of the regulator by turning it onto it's side or up righting it can also alleviate the humming. When all else fails, turn off the tank supply valve and disconnect the regulator hose, then re-attach it. The change in back pressure will normally allow the regulator to re-seal itself. |
| Q. |
What causes low heat output on the grills ?
|
| A. |
Most commonly asked in relation to propane grills, the pressure sensing device in the regulator is engaged when it senses insufficient back pressure. Its purpose is in the event there is a leak downstream, the gas flow is reduced thereby minimizing danger and alerting the user that there is something wrong with the grill. With natural gas the gas supply piping size may be inadequate for the demand of the grill, extremely windy conditions and finally sear plates that are improperly installed will affect the disbursement of heat and cause hot and cold spots. |
| Q. |
Why does flare up sometimes occur ?
|
| A. |
Unlike traditional gas grills, Napoleon grills do not normally flare up since there is no lava rock to collect the fat drippings that burn off. When flare ups occur in a Napoleon grill either the grease tray has collected too much grease or more commonly the sear plates have developed a coating of ash that absorbs the fat drippings and must be brushed clean. |
| Q. |
Why does smoke leak around the temperature gauge and deposit grease ?
|
| A. |
Improperly assembled, the washer provided with these gauges are misplaced by positioning them on the outside of the lid rather than inside between the lid and the nut. |
| Q. |
Can the stainless steel cooking rods provided with the P600 grill be used in any other grills ?
|
| A. |
While they must be purchased separately, some customers have opted for this style but they will only fit the 450 series grills. |
| Q. |
What will occur if only the orifices are changed to convert a gas grill ?
|
| A. |
While the heat value of the grill will stay the same, the big issue is that the range of heat control is almost non-existent. This is because the channel size in the valves are different
for each fuel. Changing the fuel used on a grill must only be done by using the appropriate conversion kit, which included values, orifices and conversion label for the rating plate. Failure to change the valves will most assuredly result in a customer complaint regarding the lack of heat control. |
